問:為何青春期被稱為轉骨?什麼是轉骨?男女轉骨期一樣嗎?我有三個小孩,正要進入青春期,他們身高體重比同齡小孩真的差很多,由於父母的身高也不高(父身高170公分,母158公分),很擔心孩子將來長不高。坊間廣告產品琳琅滿目,究竟要如何挑選?男女服用的時間有差別嗎?過早食用是否會出現反效果?

答:邁入青春期,由兒童發育成大人重要階段,也就是所謂的轉骨,在中醫概念上,透過調養可減少後天的失調,尤其是身型較瘦小者,青春期即長高的黃金時間,透過中藥「轉骨湯」調養、可以促進、加速生長。

不過除了後天調養,遺傳也是決定身高的重要因素。一般來說,孩子未來身高,男生大概是父母身高加總,加12、再除以2;女生則是父母身高減12、再除以2,而營養、運動、睡眠等各因素,皆與生長及身高相關,不應高度期待子女一定能長得比自己高許多。

轉骨湯主要成分以健脾固腎藥材為主,如果吸收能力不好,應要先調養脾胃,且轉骨湯是男女有別,男生要喝固腎強精、女生則是要補血養血。喝轉骨湯一定要配合發育時間,過早就是揠苗助長,過晚則沒有太大的幫助。最好是在青春期之前就開始,女生較早一點大約是9、10歲,即初經前後,男生大概是12、13歲,在變聲前後。

不過,每個人轉骨時間、體質皆有差異,周女士有三個小孩,雖是兄弟姊妹,但體質狀況未必相同,建議根據中醫問診後,再依個人體質服用適合的轉骨湯,坊間的偏方無法一概適用。

西醫觀點,認為大部分孩子成長遲緩都與營養、睡眠跟運動習慣不良有關,不用吃藥。家長如果擔心孩子特別矮小,可以到小兒內分泌科照X光、瞭解骨齡。

若因飲食偏差造成營養不良,可詢問醫師後適當補充綜合維他命、礦物質鐵、鋅等,盡量飲食均衡,不太胖的孩子也可以鼓勵多喝牛奶,因其富含鈣、乳糖都對骨骼、生長有幫助,但要減少含糖飲料攝取。如果是慢性疾病或是其他潛在的疾病,則應該透過檢查、及早介入治療。

另外,睡眠需充足,也要運動,生長激素必須要在逾20分鐘、大肌肉的有氧運動下才能生成,因此建議每天至少運動半小時,例如游泳、打球都是刺激生長素的好運動。

廣告說明不應盡信,成長發育的孩子是可能需要高熱量、高蛋白,以前營養不好時代,可能需要透過藥膳來幫孩子補身體,如今最好的方式也許是均衡飲食。
